Welcome! And thank you for visiting my new blog site. I look forward to sharing some of my ideas on life, wellness, spirituality, and all sorts of other things.
I’ve recently been contemplating what it means to be a survivor - whether it be a survivor of a chronic disease such as cancer, or something as basic as life itself. It’s something every living being has in common with each other. We are all in the business of surviving. But is there more? At what point is it no longer enough to settle for just getting by… for mediocrity?
For example, I am someone who had cancer 14 years ago, but I have become less and less interested in referring to my self as a “cancer survivor” anymore. Today, I am a person who is still standing regardless of what happened to me in the past. I am not limited, or “less than” in any way unless I choose or decide that I am.
I like the thought of moving from a state of “surviving” to one of “thriving”. It puts me more in the moment and reminds me that I always have a conscious choice in the state of mind I wish to be in. It’s incredibly freeing to realize that I always have the power to choose again. And I remind myself to do something to change my perspective when I start feeling stuck, or in fear of what may happen, or when I feel that just surviving is good enough.
And when we do find ourselves in the reality of disease, or pain (either physical or mental), I have found that there is always something that we can find to focus on that will allow us to transcend those challenges. And that is what this blog and the essence of my work is all about.
Emmett,
Great thoughts. We are always free to choose again and change who we “are”, how we see ourselves, and bringing that God energy through us to create the life we desire. Ask and it is Given!
I applaud your choices in seeing what you want for your life and not defining yourself by something that has been in the past.

Emmett, you’ve created such a beautiful blog here! Thank you for sharing your life and work with us in this way, it’s a very meaningful way to read about you, your important ideas and your vision for well being in this world…
I especially appreciated your thoughts about how you are less interested in seeing yourself as a survivor (of anything) and more interested in seeing yourself as who you are in this moment, no matter what happened yesterday, last month or 14 years ago. Yes! Very inspirational!
I’m looking forward to reading more about your important insights, keep up the great work!
